Kutumela Gone, Maritzburg Sign Replacement

Kutumela Gone, Maritzburg Sign Replacement

Maritzburg United have moved quickly to fill the void left by skipper and goal ace Thabiso Kutumela if their latest signing is anything to go by.

It's been confirmed to the Siya crew that young Rowen Human, 20, has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at the Midlands club having returned from a spell in Israel.

The youth international was on the radar of several clubs, among them Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, this time last year before moving abroad.

Kutumela joined Downs last week.

"We didn't necessarily agree with the next development plan for Rowan from Maccabi Tel Aviv, and, subsequently after some lengthy discussions, we managed to agree to part ways, albeit with some restrictions on where we could move to for the forthcoming season," said his agent Paul Mitchell of Siyavuma Sports Group.

He added that Human still had his eye on playing overseas.

"We had some very good interest from teams trying to secure his services, but Maritzburg wasted no time in securing Rowan's signature, putting forward a very good contract offer and plan, with a clear pathway to Europe," Mitchell added.

"Rowan is still only 20 and has already played 43 first games both in the PSL and in Israel, he is a top quality player with huge talent and no doubt will go on to reach the targets we have collectively set for him since he was young."

According to his representative, Human made great strides since he was promoted from the Bidvest Wits reserves to the first team a little over a year ago and his time in Israel.

"He is a well-grounded, professional young player, who has learnt a lot both on and off the pitch, during his time in Israel. Maccabi Tel Aviv looked after him very well. He will be with a head coach (Ernst Middendorp) who is renowned for the development of young talent and part of a very good club and we are sure it will be a successful partnership," Mitchell explained.

The Team of Choice also confirmed the signing of Alfred Ndengane, Zukile Kewuti and Lifa Hlongwane - Maahier Davids also returns to work with Middendorp again.
