Khanyisile Mayo following in his father's footsteps Patrick Mayo following Amajita call-up

Khanyisile Mayo following in his father's footsteps Patrick Mayo following Amajita call-up

Amajita debutant Khanyisile Mayo says he is proud of no longer being the 'Black Sheep' of the family following his first cap for the U-20 men's national team.

Khanyisile is the son of former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs player, Partick Mayo and first burst onto the scene for the Amajimbos. Following his call-up to Thabo Senong's Amajita side ahead of the U-20 Afcon qualifiers against Malawi, the 19-year-old attributed his selection for the national side, to hard work.

"I was so happy to play my debut match against Zambia. I almost scored a goal but unfortunately, it didn't happen, but I'm happy with the performance I produced," said the young striker to Soccer Laduma.

"My dad was happy and told me to make him proud. When the coach called me from the bench I knew it was my time. I was hungry to play and when I came on I know I affected the game and changed the tempo and made the game faster.

"I will continue to work hard as we prepare for Malawi. But whether I start or not the performance of the team is high because all the players are ready to play," added Mayo.

Amajita play the Malawian U-20s this coming weekend at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg. The match will start at 15:30.
