The second edition of the Siyabonga Nkosi Youth Festival takes place in the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder's hometown of Newcastle, Durban, from 5 to 16 June.
The youth festival that started off in 2006 as Siyabonga Nkosi Tournament has evolved over the years and now has become one of the most anticipated events in the sporting and cultural calendar in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
He commented, "We received an overwhelming response from the people in and around Amajuba District last year following our first edition of Youth Festival. "The Youth Festival is a platform for the youth in the Amajuba District to showcase their God given talent and possible (sic) use the Festival as an opportunity to launch their careers. The initiative is also a way of heeding a call for South Africans to continue giving back to their communities as we celebrate 20 years of Democracy."
The Kaizer Chiefs U19 side will also be participating for the first time this year and will surely draw crowds as throngs of community members are expected to turn up. "It is with huge amount of gratitude that we will have Kaizer Chiefs development side this year. All the details with regards to 2014 festival will be announced on Tuesday at a press conference to be held in Durban," added Nkosi.
It is not uncommon at this time of the year, when the season has come to an end, for professional footballers to organise events in their communities as a way of giving back, and this is exactly what the flamboyant midfielder is doing.
