Joseph Mkhonza Has Permanently Parted Ways With SAFA

Former Banyana Banyana coach, Joseph Mkhonza, has permanently parted ways with the South African Football Association.

Soccer Laduma learnt that Mkhonza had taken SAFA to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) following his dismissal as the coach of the senior national women's football team.

According to sources close to the latest happenings at SAFA, Mkhonza's actions didn't sit well with the football mother body. Mkhonza was replaced by Vera Pauw when his contract with SAFA wasn't renewed earlier this year.

Mkhonza, who played for Kaizer Chiefs during his prime as a professional footballer, challenged SAFA's decision to dismiss him. He felt that he should have been allowed to continue as the coach of Banyana.

SAFA had other ideas and opted for Pauw and offered Mkhonza a role scouting for Banyana which he turned down. A source close to Mkhonza revealed that the coach pursued the case and lost, which marked the end of his association with SAFA under the leadership of Danny Jordaan.

Banyana jetted out to Namibia on Monday as they prepare for the African Women's Championship where they have been pitted alongside Cameroon, Ghana and Algeria in Group B. This will also mark Banyana's participation at the championships for the 10th time.

The top three sides in the African Women's Championship also qualify to compete in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.
