RHULANI MOKWENA
Coach Rhulani Mokwena is considered an exceptional professional who has taken inspiration from legendary Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to craft his own unique coaching style. At only 38 years old, he has truly imprinted his DNA on the game and has garnered a reputation for being a modern-day coach with a keen eye for tactical intricacies. In this interview with Soccer Laduma, the former Wydad Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates coach discusses his time in Morocco, the language barrier, the challenges, and his coaching methodology.
KAIZER CHIEFS
With a new season on the horizon, Kaizer Chiefs are looking to close a mammoth 41 points to Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table. With so many matches decided in the midfield area, Nasreddine Nabi has consistently changed his midfield pairing to try to find the right mix. We’ve already seen one signing in this key area, and two significant departures whilst rumours intensify over a second addition in midfield. With eight options in that position as things stand today, could we see a change of formation? Nabi saw just three goals scored by his midfield options last term and a proper rejig may be needed for Chiefs to start dominating games a bit more effectively. Soccer Laduma investigates.
SIYA SPECIAL
When Mamelodi Sundowns made the bold decision to part ways with Manqoba Mngqithi midway through the 2024/25 season, it raised many eyebrows. The club was still top of the Betway Premiership, unbeaten, and technically within reach of the CAF Champions League knockout stages. But chairman Thlopie Motsepe made it clear: results alone weren’t enough. The identity, the standard, and the ambition of the club needed a refresh. In came Miguel Cardoso – the Portuguese tactician known for his tactical sophistication, European pedigree, and a burning desire to shape teams into elite, dynamic outfits. Now, just months into his tenure, the Siya crew understands that despite a mixed bag of results – including a narrow CAF Champions League final defeat and a group-stage exit at the FIFA Club World Cup – Sundowns are sticking with Cardoso. Not only is he safe at Chloorkop, but the club also sees him as a long-term piece in their grand vision.
