Four South African Football Stars To Jet Off To Brazil

Legendary South African coach and renowned talent spotter, Ephraim Matsilela 'Jomo' Sono, is set to see four of his players from Jomo Cosmos jetting off to Brazil, and with a chance to sign professional contracts, in one of his latest achievements.

Cosmos recently announced a partnership with Gremio Esportivo Mauaense, who are a Brazilian second division club based in Mauá – a municipality in the city of Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Gremio officials were on an official visit in Mzansi last week, where a partnership with Ezenkosi was announced.   

It has been confirmed from the National First Division outfit that Silas Maziya, Onke Moletshe, Mpumelelo Zondi and 16-year old Zuko Gxabuza will be heading to Brazil in April, as part of the association for the two clubs.

As confirmed from Ezenkosi, the club already has three Brazilian players training with the team under Sono.  

"This is a historical moment for Jomo Cosmos. Brazil is a renowned world power in the game of football, and our association with Gremio is a laudable achievement by Cosmos standards because it will help our growth as a team and open lots of opportunities for our upcoming players," said Sono, as quoted on the club's official website.

President of Gremio, Marco Antonio, explained why his team chose to partner with Cosmos.

"Cosmos identifies with youth development and has produced several players of international repute. We know we have chosen right by picking Cosmos, and Jomo, as we all know, has been a worthy ambassador of the game as a player and coach both at home and abroad," Antonio told Cosmos website.

Former Orlando Pirates striker, Pio Nogueira, has lauded the partnership between Cosmos and Gremio. Nogueira is currently the CEO of the Brazilian club.

"Jomo is well known all over the world as a brilliant talent scout, and since we share the same vision in terms of developing raw talent, I can confidently say that this partnership will grow by leaps and bounds. And let me add that this is not just a partnership, Jomo will be sitting on the board of Gremio, and that underlines our faith in the man and his unlimited abilities," said Nogueira, as quoted on Cosmos' website.  

As confirmed from Ezenkosi, other Gremio officials who attended the event included Director of Marketing, Will Viana and former Flamengo and Cape Town Spurs star Bigu Chagar, who is currently the Director of International Relations for the Brazilian outfit.
