Stellenbosch maintained their unbeaten record in the DStv Premiership despite giving up a two-goal lead against AmaZulu on Saturday afternoon.
Result: Stellenbosch 2-2 AmaZulu
Date: 20 November 2021
Venue: Danie Craven Stadium
Stellies coach Steve Barker was able to re-call Junior Mendieta from suspension, as Judas Moseamedi dropped to the bench to make way for the attacking midfielder.
For AmaZulu, Augustine Mulenga was rewarded with a start after bagging a brace against Cape Town City last time out as Philani Zulu missed out this week.
The visitors managed to carve out the first opening side 10 minutes when Majoro forced Stellies shot-stopper Sage Stephens into a save after latching onto a loose ball.
Both sides struggled to carve out clear chances thereafter, with both goalkeepers barely called upon to make any big saves in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Stellies broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when Stanley Digmba intercepted a shot from Kwinika before firing past Veli Mothwa from close range.
The lead was doubled with 20 minutes left on the clock as Mendieta did well slip in Ashley du Preez, who rifled the ball into the roof of the net.
Benni McCarthy's charges set up a nervy finish after pulling a goal back through Sphesihle Maduna's first league goal of the season in the 77th minute.
However, Stellies were unable to see out the clash as Keagan Buchanan rescued a point for Usuthu after scoring directly from a corner in the final stages, while the hosts finished the game with 10 men after Devin Titus was sent off in second-half stoppage time.
