Marumo Gallants remain rooted to the bottom of the DStv Premiership table after playing to a goalless draw with Maritzburg United on Wednesday evening.
Teams: Marumo Gallants 0-0 Maritzburg United
Date: 24 November 2021
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Gallants were looking to build on their first win of the season over the weekend, as Dan Malesela named unchanged side for his second game in charge.
Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp handed a recall to Brandon Theron in place of Richard Zumah, while Rowan Human replaced Amadou Soukouna in the attack.
Gallants were still looking for their first win of the season but the first-half showing did not inspire any confidence after failing to seriously trouble Marcel Engelhardt in the Maritzburg goal.
The first half at the Peter Mokaba Stadium failed to produce any goals, but Malesela looked to change that in the second after introducing Lerato Lamola and Thabo Mnyamane.
It took a while but the change looked to have paid off after the hosts were awarded a penalty after 73 minutes. Mnyamane stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Englehardt.
Neither side were able to find the breakthrough in the latter stages of the second half as the spoils were shared of the evening.
As a result, Gallants remain bottom of the league standings while the Team of Choice are unchanged in 11th position after 12 matches played.
