Result: Maritzburg United 0-2 Sekhukhune United

Date: 25 August 2021

Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium

Ernst Middendorp went with the same side that started against Golden Arrows, while Sekhukhune opted to drop Willard Katsande and Thabo Rakhale after the loss to Chippa United.

Chibuike Ohizu came in as one of the visitors' changes and he repaid the faith on 18 minutes with the game's opening goal and his first for the campaign.

With the Team of Choice pushing for an equaliser, they were hit on the break as Sekhukhune managed to double their lead in the 31st minute through Ohizu's second on the night.

Maritzburg did manage to carve out an opening before the break as Human latched onto a pass from Richard Zumah just outside the box before unleashing a curling strike that forced Tapuwa Kapini into a save.

With time slowly running down in the second half, Middendorp opted for a double change on the hour mark as Lifa Hlongwane and Lelethu Skelem replaced Daylon Claasen and Zumah.

The substitution nearly paid off with 14 minutes left on the clock but Hlongwane's curling free-kick was kept out by the fingertips of Kapini.

In the end, Sekhukhune were able to see off the late charge from Maritzburg to secure a clean sheet to go along with their first-ever win in the top-flight.
