DStv Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 2-2 Swallows

Date: 21 May 2022

Venue: FNB Stadium

Arthur Zwane handed a recall to Bernard Parker who came in for Leonardo Castro, while Njabulo Ngcobo and Kearyn Baccus also returned to the Chiefs line-up.

Swallows came out firing with their status on the lines, as Kamohelo Mahlatsi and and Mwape Musonda squandered good chances inside the opening five minutes.

Chiefs made a slow start to the contest but managed to get the opening goal when former Swallows star Ngcobo nodded home a cross from Reeve Frosler for his first goal for the club.

The visitors should have levelled matters just before the hour mark when Solomons did well to pick out Musonda, who headed over the crossbar with only Bruce Bvuma to beat.

Dylan Kerr's side continued to threaten as Mahlatsi went close with a strike on 33 minutes before Lebohang Mokoena's volley was kept out by Bvuma a few minutes later.

Swallows almost got their reward just before the interval, with Junaid Sait rose above his marker to meet an out-swinging corner that was parried away by Bvuma, who nearly gifted the equaliser seconds later when he spilled Solomons' cross onto the woodwork.

Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Austin Dube got a rare appearance in place of Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

There was a moment of drama on the hour mark when the referee appeared blew for a penalty after a handball from Phathutshedzo Nange, who was shown a straight red card.

Solomons stepped up to take the all-important penalty and showed great composure to send Bvuma the wrong and level matters on the day.

Swallows were then awarded a second penalty eight minutes later when Ngcobo handled the ball in the box. Solomons took responsibility again and calmly slotted into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

However, the pendulum swung once again as the ten men of Chiefs restored parity in the 84th minute thanks to Bernard Paker's free-kick that deflected past Jody February.

Neither side could find another goal in the closing stages as Chiefs find themselves in fourth spot while Swallows will compete in the relegation play-offs.
