DStv Premiership Report: Baroka v AmaZulu 23 January 2021

Result: Baroka 0-2 AmaZulu

Date: 23 January 2021

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

AmaZulu broke a four-match winless run in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Usuthu were playing some enterprising football in the opening exchanges as they looked to penetrate the home team's defence.

And Benni McCarthy's side deservedly took the lead in the 20th minute after Bongi Ntuli headed home an excellent cross from the left wing from Sibusiso Mabiliso.

Soon after, Lehlohonolo Majoro unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot with but it hit the post as Baroka escaped.

Usuthu were definitely on the front foot and in the 29th minute, Luvuyo Memela had a go after linking up beautifully with Ntuli but his leftfooted strike was saved by Bakgaga goalie Elvis Chipezeze.

Baroka had their first attempt in the 39th minute when Gerald Phiri Jr tried his luck from range but is was not to be as it went wide.

In the 52nd minute, Siyethemba Sithebe connected handsomely with Mabiliso's ball from the left but the dreadlocked midfielder unluckily misses by an inch.

Sithebe again had a decent chance on goal but saw his shot go over the goal. McCarthy brought on Butolezwe Ncube and Siphelele Magubane.

And Magubane made the impact by scoring the second goal in the 87th minute after he met Sithebe's cross to head home and wrap up the three points for the visitors.
