DStv Premiership Report: Baroka FC v Cape Town City 11 December 2021

Cape Town City extended their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership to four matches after playing to a goalless draw with Baroka on Saturday afternoon.

Result: Baroka FC 0-0 Cape Town City

Date: 11 December 2021

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

The Citizens made two changes to the team that edged a five-goal thriller against Maritzburg United, as Thamsanqa Mkhize and Bradley Ralani were recalled while Bakgaga made a number of changes, bringing back the likes of Richard Mbulu and Manuel Kambala.

City were taking the game to Baroka in the opening exchanges but it took them up until the 24th minute to test goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke, who parried away Fagrie Lakay's strike from outside the box.

Eric Tinkler's charges carved open Bakgaga's defence six minutes later after Lakay went through on goal on the right side of the box and played a square pass that was a little too strong for the unmarked Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Kgoloko Thobejane's men had a chance on a counter-attack just before the half-time break after Mbulu went through on goal but his cut-back was greatly intercepted by Fasika Idumba.

Baroka had good start in the second stanza, as they were awarded a penalty three minutes from the break for a handball by Fasika in the box but Mbulu's spot-kick was saved by shot-stopper Hugo Marques.

City were struggling to find their rhythm going forward and Tinkler made a double change 16 minutes before time, as Thabo Nodada replaced Mpho Makola for fresh legs in midfield and Keanu Cupido came on for Fasika, who was on a yellow card and running the risk of being sent off.

The Citizens had a late surge in goal in the dying minutes but but they were not decisive in the last third as the sides shared the spoils, with Baroka remaining at the bottom.
