Court Hears That Kelly Khumalo Should Be Charged In Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial

Court Hears That Kelly Khumalo Should Be Charged In Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial

As the murder trial of slain former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa resumed in Pretoria on Wednesday in the North Gauteng High Court, new details emerged related to a recommendation that singer and actress Kelly Khumalo is among the latest people who should be charged for his murder.

Defence advocate Zandile Mshololo proceeded with her cross-examination of forensic expert Sergeant Thabo Mosia who is the state's first witness, when the latest information surfaced from a second docket that the court is in possession of.

As per the docket, Longwe Twala, who is the son of well-known music producer Sello 'Chicco' Twala, Khumalo, her mother Gladness Khumalo and sister Zandile Khumalo, Tumelo Madlala who was Senzo's friend, as well as Mthokozisi Twala and Maggie Phiri should all be prosecuted.

All seven people were present in the house at Vosloorus in Gauteng on the night of 26 October 2014 when Meyiwa was shot and killed.

Mshololo, who is representing accused number five Fisokuhle Ntuli, told the court that the second docket includes a recommendation from the Gauteng head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that the seven be prosecuted for Meyiwa's death.

Accused one to four are Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Ncube and Mthokoziseni Maphisa and are all legally represented by advocate Dan Teffo.

So far, the court has been told by the legal representatives of the five men that the accused have had no connection with the crime.

The accused face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and the illegal possession of ammunition.

They have all pleaded not guilty though are remanded in custody and the matter has been postponed to 13 June.

Teffo has previously told the court that there was an eyewitness who would testify that the 'Ngathwala Ngaye' hitmaker shot Meyiwa by mistake with a firearm that was allegedly brought to the crime scene by Longwe Twala.
