Promotion/Relegation Play-Off
Result: Chippa 0-0 Santos
Date: 29 May 2013
Venue: Philippi Stadium
Chippa United and Santos played to a 0-0 draw in the opening game of the promotion/relegation play-offs at the Philippi Stadium on Wednesday night.
The wet and cold conditions in the Western Cape made things difficult for both sides as chances were limited and they struggled to hold onto the ball.
The People's Team went close early on with a shot from Vuyisile Wana which sailed just over the crossbar before Chippa responded with a cross from Asavela Mbekile which hit the woodwork.
Ricardo Skippers almost deflected the ball into his own net after 30 minutes of action and the game went into the break locked at 0-0.
The woodwork was shaking again in the second period when Buyani Sali curled a shot onto the crossbar before Mkhanyiseli Siwahla worked Pa Demba Touray on the hour mark.
The hosts were turning up the pressure and Siwahla failed to score in a one-on-one situation after good work from Mbekile with 20 minutes to go.
The Chilli Boys then suffered a blow with 11 minutes left on the clock when Sali was sent off after he reacted poorly to a challenge from Tyren Arendse.
Santos were unable to make the most of the advantage in the final few minutes though as the game got scrappy and each team left with a point.
This is how they line up:
