SuperSport United beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in both teams' opening PSL game of the season at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
The match had to be resumed on Wednesday afternoon at 12h00, after a technical failure the night before at the stadium saw the floodlights fail in the 63rd minute with SuperSport leading 1-0.
While they attempted to solve the issue, the match was abandoned after 10pm.
The Buccaneers had the first opening of the game in the fourth minute on Tuesday night, when Tendai Ndoro blasted over from close range, after some good work by Thabo Rakhale down the right flank.
The hosts nearly broke the deadlock in the 19th minute but Brighton Mhlongo was on hand to keep out Michael Boxall's glancing header.
Pirates' new signing, Ndoro, could have marked his debut wit a goal in the 20th minute but the striker managed to head over from six-yards out.
SuperSport then went ahead three minutes later, as an un-marked Boxall turned home David Mathebula's free-kick from 12-yards out.
Eric Tinkler's side continued to dictate play after going behind, although they struggled to create openings in the final third.
The hosts were also dealt a blow in the first half, as the inspirational Mathebula had to substituted due to an injury. He was replaced by Michael Morton.
Shortly after the break Rakhale had a chance for Pirates to draw level, but his effort was easily dealt with by Ronwen Williams.
With Pirates looking for an equaliser Tinkler decided to bring on Kermit Erasmus, who replaced Ndoro.
However just after the hour mark the lights went out, and with the teams unable to resume on Tuesday night the game continued on Wednesday afternoon.
Upon resumption, Pirates made two forced changes with Filipe Ovono replacing Benson Mhlongo in goal, and Lehlohonolo Majoro replacing Thabo Rakhale.
The Buccaneers showed their intent early on and Issa Sarr's header forced Williams into a save just two minutes after the restart.
Ten minutes later Erasmus had a chance for Pirates, but Williams was once again there to make the stop.
In the 78th minute Siyabonga Sangweni tried a shot from range but it flew over the goal, and a minute later Sifiso Myeni's attempt was deflected wide.
With five minutes to go Brockie had a chance on the other end, but his header was safely dealt with by Ovono in goal.
Myeni had a chance from a set piece in the 88th minute, but his attempt went over the goal.
Erasmus had a chance in stoppage time but his shot rolled wide to the right.
Williams was back in the action with a minute of stoppage time to go to deny both Erasmus and Masuku, as SuperSport held on for the win.
