Absa Premiership Report: AmaZulu v Bloemfontein Celtic 24 August 2020

Result: AmaZulu 2-2 Bloemfontein Celtic

Date: 24 August 2020

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

AmaZulu moved off the foot of the Absa Premiership table after their 2-2 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic on Monday afternoon.

Celtic coach John Maduka named the same side that humbled Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, while goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane returned to the matchday squad.

Majoro was rewarded with a start after netting in the loss to Bidvest Wits and repaid the faith once again after opening the scoring on seven minutes for Usuthu.

The hosts nearly bagged a second goal on 18 minutes when Khumalo was gifted space in the box, but the striker saw effort parried away by Celtic goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

While it took Celtic a while to get going, Maduka's troops managed to restore parity five minutes before the break as Sera Motebang bagged his third goal in two games.

Usuthu nearly restored their lead shortly after the halftime break through Khumalo, but the young striker's header was ruled out for an offside.

Ayanda Dlamini's troops eventually got their reward after the hour mark through Wandisile Letlabika, who put the ball through his own net.

The lead didn't last too long though as Celtic pulled themselves level on 68 minutes, with Ndumiso Mabena firing past Siyabonga Mbatha to set up a lively final 20 minutes.

AmaZulu went close to securing the win with five minutes left of the contest but Charlie Hlalele saw his strike turned away by Chaine as the sides settled for a share of the spoils.

As a result, the points sees AmaZulu move into the relegation play-off spot while Celtic miss the chance to move into eighth spot.
