It was the home side who made the better start to the first half, as Shakes Mashaba's men struggled to get their passing game going in the middle of the park.
Senzo Meyiwa was called into action on a couple occasions, most notably in the 15th minute to as he was forced into a fine finger tip save. However, Bafana had the best chance of the half, an error from the Sudan goalkeeper Moez, gifted Tokelo Rantie with a great chance, but the striker somehow placed his effort wide of the target with the goal at his mercy. Rantie then came close in the 32nd minute, as his curling left-footed strike from the edge of the area forced Moeze into a fine finger tip save. Sudan certainly ended the half the stronger of the two, while the likes of Thabo Matlaba, Mandla Masango and Keagan Dolly were yet to make their presence known. Dean Furman could have broken the deadlock minutes after the restart but his snapshot sailed wide of the target. However, Mashaba's men took the lead in the 55th minute, as substitute Sibusiso Vilakazi reacted quickest to poke home from close range, after Thulani Hlatshwayo's header was cleared off the line. Five minutes later and the lead was doubled, as Vilakazi did well to beat his marker before rifling the ball into the top corner. Bafana added a third in the 78th minute through Bongani Ndulula's close range finish, after he was teed up by Oupa Manyisa. Sudan almost pulled one back in the closing stages of the half, as Jabir's header crashed onto the upright, with Meyiwa beaten. However, the visitors survived the late scare, as Shakes Mashaba start's his reign with an impressive victory.
