Having played five Absa Premiership fixtures so far this season, drawing two and losing three, Ajax Cape Town find themselves rooted at the bottom of the PSL log with only two points, however Shooz Mekuto is confident that they will bounce back.
The Ikamva-based outfit has recently seen an increase in their injury list, with no less than ten players nursing injuries. The latest casualty being their recently promoted goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who sustained an injury in their Absa Premiership defeat to Polokwane City last Sunday.
Ajax are now preparing to face SuperSport United away from home in the Telkom Knockout, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, and Mekuto, the Urban Warriors’ Public Relations Officer, insists that they will be a different team on the day.
Mekuto told Soccer-Laduma, “Obviously, the team is not doing well but we have 25 games to play and we are working very hard to ensure we get back to our winning ways. On the other hand, we have a long list of casualties and we had to chop and change our line-up everytime we play.”
Coach Muhsin Ertugral has been successful in cup competitions over the years and it is going to be a strongly contested encounter between the two sides. Despite not doing fairly well in the league, there are a number of reasons as to why the team is at the bottom of the log.
“We have a very young squad and as you know Ajax is all about development. We just hope that our senior players like Nathan Paulse and Eleazar Rodgers will find their feet and score goals very soon.
“Things will be much different then because if we can’t score, we will not improve our log standings.
“As we speak, 20 out of 29 players in our squad are players from our development, that is not an excuse but as the league progresses, these boys will get used to the premier stage,” revealed Mekuto.
