Mthembu: I'm Not Yet The Number One Striker

Kaizer Chiefs striker, Siphelele Mthembu, has indicated that he does not think that he is the number one striker at the club.

Mthembu had to play second fiddle to Kingston Nkhatha at the start of last season, making only a single start and 15 substitute appearances under former coach, Stuart Baxter.

Under new coach, Steve Komphela, the 28-year-old has started six of the 10 competitive fixtures so far this season, but has had to settle for a place on the bench in the last couple of games, with Camaldine Abraw taking his place

Mthembu insists that even though he has made more starts than the other strikers and seems to be the preferred option under Komphela, he is not ready to label himself as number one striker at the club.

“I am happy that I have been given the chance by Coach Steve Komphela to start the games that I have started so far, but I can’t say I have established myself as the number one striker,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“Every striker at the team is first choice, depending on what the coach wants on that particular day. But I am happy that I am playing regularly so far this season.”
