Absa Premiership
Result: Golden Arrows 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs
Date: 25 January 2020
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
Lebogang Manyama struck in the dying stages of the second half to send Kaizer Chiefs 10 points at the top of the Absa Premiership.
Chiefs made two changes from the draw with Black Leopards as George Maluleka returned from suspension while Dumisani Zuma got a rare start. Meanwhile, Arrows showed similar changes, as Divine Lunga and Seth Parusnath were both recalled.
Abafana Bes'thende were playing deep in their own half in the early stages, denying Amakhosi spaces in the last third to turn their defence.
However, the Glamour Boys came close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute after Kgotso Moleko surged forward on the overlap and sent a cross to the near post but Eric Mathoho's first-time half-volley sailed slightly wide.
Ernst Middendorp's charges were unable to find their rhythm going forward, while Steve Komphela's troops were quite happy to sit back and soak up the pressure as the first half proved to be a pretty dull affair, with Nurkovic's early yellow card the only real talking point.
Chiefs picked up their pace going forward from the break after Reeve Frosler came on for Moleko and Manyama had a glorious chance five minutes inside the second stanza after Zuma set him up coming deep inside the box but his goal-bound shot was blocked by the last defender, Siyabonga Dube.
However, the momentum died down after that, as Arrows retreated back to their own half and defended in numbers as the frustration began to grow for the away side once agin.
Amakhosi needed inspiration upfront and Middendorp made a tactical switch with 21 minutes remaining, bringing on striker Lazarous Kambole in place of winger Zuma.
The visitors eventually netted the winner in stoppage time after Manyama fired home a volley from the edge of the box to send Chiefs ten points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns.
