Moeneeb Josephs says that he is ‘guaranteed’ a contract with Bidvest Wits next season, despite them not having exercised their option on him yet.
The 37-year-old was handed the Player of the Month trophy for May earlier today following his performances that helped get the Clever Boys over the line for the Absa Premiership title and he says that he’s still got something left in the tank.
Josephs played 11 domestic games for Wits this season as they completed a league and cup double, however, at one point he looked to have been completely out of the picture given the fine form of Darren Keet.
Now, with Wits having until the end of the day to exercise the option in his contract, Josephs says that he’s not worried about it at all.
He said, “They’re sorting it out today… I’m not even stressed about it. I’m happy, I know that I’m going to be in the team, I’m guaranteed. I know that I’m going to be here because there have been talks. “
“It’s not easy negotiating with a 37-year-old,” he jokes. “Because you have to put in a maintenance plan and an old age home.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of retirement, the former Orlando Pirates man said, “I swear I haven’t thought about it yet because I’m still feeling good. As long as I can keep doing what I’m doing for the team and keep being a positive influence then I’ll keep going.
"If the coach then says that it’s time for me to pack it up, then I’ll pack it up. Up until that moment, I think I still have a little bit to offer. I’m still enjoying the game and as long as I have that passion I’ll keep going."
