Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Stanton Fredericks, has maintained that besides centre-back, Lorenzo Gordinho being suspended from the upcoming Soweto Derby, it won’t affect the Amakhosi.
'Freedom' picked up his fourth yellow card of the season in their 1-1 draw against Polokwane City in a league encounter recently and will now miss the all-important clash.
Chiefs will once again renew their rivalry when they honour their Nedbank Cup Round of 32 showdown date with the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium and, 'Stiga' believes that due to the Glamour Boys having previously tried various centre-back pairings - Gordinho’s absence won’t bare an effect on the outcome.
“I think the fact that Tefu Mashamaite left really disturbed the central combination big time, so whoever was to be brought in to play alongside Mathoho was going to need time in order to get the combination working.”
The former Pirates development player has been an ever-present figure since Chiefs’ 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United in November 2015, and most recently notched up back-to-back man of the match accolades for his outstanding performances.
"I don’t think there’s going to be much of a problem because there’s enough quality and experience in the team. Gordinho has worked himself into the starting line-up and he’s been exceptional,” he said.
“I think Mathoho is experienced enough to guide whoever is partnering him, whether it is Daniel Cardoso or Morgan Gould,” Stiga said.
