Former Orlando Pirates Defender Lashes Out At Milutin Sredojevic

Former Orlando Pirates Defender Lashes Out At Milutin Sredojevic

Milutin Sredojevic

A former Orlando Pirates defender has lashed out at the club's head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic for his comments about the team's points tally, after missing out on winning the Absa Premiership title this season.

Despite their impressive 3-0 win over Polokwane City in the last match of the season at the weekend, the Buccaneers missed out on winning the PSL title after finishing their campaign with 57 points, two points behind winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sredojevic lauded the team and his players for finishing on a higher number of points compared to what they achieved (55) last season.

Former Pirates defender, Lucas Tlhomelang, lashed out at the Serbian coach for his comparison.

"Former Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane got it right when he said that football can kill you (a) real death," said Tlhomelang.

"It's very disappointing for the coach to be saying that this was a good season for Pirates because of the points they got compared to what they had last season. Pirates is a big team and deserve to win something out of every season. If a big team like Pirates with the resources they have don't win anything for seasons in a row, it is a concern. He (Sredojevic) can't be talking about the points," added Tlhomelang.

"Look at Liverpool, they got more than 90 points but they didn't win the league. He can't be talking about points, the team must win something. It's disappointing for such a big time to go this long without winning any trophy. Pirates need something to show for the supporters. He can try to defend himself and his job, but the reality is that Pirates haven't won anything. He's been at Pirates for more than two seasons, as he had been with the club previously from his first stint, and he hasn't won anything with the team. He's got nothing to show. Micho must accept that he and the team lost the league in Cape Town against Cape Town City," he concluded.

Sredojevic rued the number of draws (12) that Pirates recorded during the 2018/19 campaign.
