Swans Make It Two From Two

Swansea made it two wins from two in the UEFA Europa League as they beat St Gallen 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Thursday night in a thrilling encounter.

Swansea started the game brightly with Wilfried Bony laying the ball off to Michu after losing his marker in the fourth minute but the Spaniard's low strike was dealt with by Daniel Lopar.

The English Premier League side had another chance a minute later when Jonathan De Guzman's corner seemed to fool everyone and caught Michu by surprise as he nodded over at the edge of the six-yard area.

Disaster struck for Swansea in the 14th minute when Dwight Tiendalli was penalised for handball in the area but Goran Karanovic produced a weak effort from the spot which Gerhard Tremmel saved.

Marco Mathys then had another glorious opportunity to put the visiting side ahead when he was slipped through but his effort past the on-rushing Tremmel went just wide.

The excitement continued in the 25th minute with Jordi Amat meeting a decent free-kick into the area but Lopar pushed the header onto the post before Pozuelo saw a shot blocked moments later.

The opening goal finally arrived after the break when Pozuelo was given space to run and he slid the ball through to Bony who pulled it back across goal and Wayne Routledge was on hand to tap home.

Alhassane Keita put the ball on the roof of the net at the other end with a lob after a good piece of skill to beat his defender while Alvaro Vasquez went within inches of a second for Swansea in the 72nd minute.

The game was set for a tense finish as Nathan Dyer was denied by a spectacular save from Lopar while Stephane Nater hit the post with a ferocious strike a minute later for St Gallen.

Keita was almost slipped in by Dejan Janjatovic in the 89th minute but Chico lunged in to make a decent clearance as Swansea held on to secure all three points.
