It's been more than a year since George Maluleka last got himself on the scoresheet, but he's hoping to again score against his former employers for Kaizer Chiefs today…
The 30-year-old midfielder's last goal for the Glamour Boys came in December 2018 when he scored the winner against SuperSport United, and he'll be itching for a similar outcome this afternoon when the teams lock horns in Nelspruit.
Chiefs are currently seven points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table following their barnstorming start to the 2019/20 campaign, and may have the chance to extend that lead should Masandawana drop
Speaking to the club's official website, the former Matsatsantsa star said, "I like scoring against SuperSport. A lot of people are saying I have not scored, from December – January onwards, that's when I usually start picking up goals. Last season I opened up my account against SuperSport in December 2018 and hopefully I can get my first league goal of this season against them."
After facing SuperSport, Chiefs will take Highlands Park, Cape Town City, Black Leopards and Golden Arrows before the month is out, with January's results likely to test the club's title credentials for the 2019/20 campaign.
'Mido', who is set to play a big role as the new decade gets underway, isn't too daunted by the fixtures though, saying, "I think it's something that we are used to – playing so many games so close to one another. We need to continue working hard and with the right game plan, things will go well for us on the day.
"I think we have a phenomenal team and our technical staff is doing a great job. Look at the way we have been playing, we don't need to panic. We are in a good position, so we should not put ourselves under pressure and take things one game at a time."
Chiefs face SuperSport at 18h00 tonight as they seek to extend their lead at the top of the table once again.
