A Mamelodi Sundowns defender is close to joining a club in the DStv Premiership in the coming days, the Siya crew has learnt.
There has been uncertainty regarding the future of Anele Ngcongca at the Brazilians in recent weeks after the experienced player stopped training with the team, and after further investigation since the player has been linked with Swallows FC and TS Galaxy respectively, it has emerged that AmaZulu have become the favourites to land the Gugulethu player's signature.
Following a start to the 2020/21 season which saw the Durban outfit win one, draw one and lose another out of the three matches so far, AmaZulu are believed to be working on concluding a deal with the experienced right-back who can also play as a centre-back and has represented Bafana Bafana several times.
Having already signed some of the experienced players in Mzansi, including Siphiwe Tshabalala, Luvuyo Memela and Augustine Mulenga, the Durban-based club is keen on further strengthening Ayanda Dlamini's squad in line with the new owners' ambition of a top four finish on the log.
Following the departure of Pitso Mosimane to Al Ahly in Egypt, Ngcongca was deemed surplus to requirements at the Chloorkop outfit.
According to sources, the 33-year-old defender who spent the better part of his career abroad plying his trade in Belgium, could be set to finalise a move to Usuthu in the coming days.
Ngcongca is expected to sign a one-year loan deal with the KwaZulu-Natal giants with an option to buy him for another one year outright from Sundowns.
