Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has sent Los Blancos legend Raul a heartwarming message after the latter announced his intention to retire on Sunday.
The Spaniard will officially hang up his boots this weekend after his club New York Cosmos take on the Ottawa Fury.
The football world, including Ronaldo, sent words of praise to the former Real No. 7 and wished him well in his retirement.
"I want to congratulate you on your unforgettable career. You've been an example as a player and as a person," Ronaldo said in a video posted on Cosmos' official website.
"We spent two years together here and I wish it had been more. You were No. 1 at Real Madrid as a player and as a professional. I send you a hug, mate."
Former teammates Marcelo, Alvaro Arbeloa and Pepe, and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez, who coached Raul when he was a member of the club's Castilla side, also featured in the video.
"You were and still are an idol for all of us," stated Arbeloa.
"Skipper, we all miss you," admitted Pepe.
"You've been an example for all of us," said Marcelo.
"I want to thank you for everything you've done for Real Madrid and football. I wish you the best of luck," stated Benitez.
Raul played 738 matches for Real and managed to score 322 goals along the way.
