Swallows FC jumped to 12th position on the DStv Premiership standings after securing a vital 2-0 win over Royal AM on Wednesday night.

Result: Swallows FC 2-0 Royal AM

Date: 19 October 2022

Venue: Dobsonville Stadium

Sedwyn George and Andre de Jong led the attack for the KwaZulu-Natal side, with Lesvin Stoffels and Ruzaigh Gamildien on the bench after the weekend's CAF Confederation Cup action.

Swallows, meanwhile, went for two up top as well as Waseem Isaacs was partnered by 2018/2019 Golden Boot winner Mwape Musonda as they looked to get back on the winning trail.

Both sides looked lively in the early stages, with Royal AM forcing a save out of Thakasani Mbanjwa while while Tshediso Patjie tried his luck from distance inside the opening 15 minutes.

However, the game was halted at the midway point as the lights at Dobsonville Stadium had gone out due to loadshedding in the area.

The encounter did eventually resume and it was the Dube Birds who got the breakthrough, with full-back Gregory Damons getting his first goal of the season.

Musonda made the most of his opportunity on the night, as he doubled Swallows' lead shortly after the halftime break with his third goal of the campaign.

Musonda's goal seemingly knocked the wind out of Royal AM's sails, as the visitors were unable to find a way back into the contest as the hosts held on for their third win of the season.
