In today's edition of Supporters Club Did You Know, we bring you the story of the first time a white team, East London United, wandered into the township to play a football game on 2 October 1977. The pre-match ritual employed by the hosts was rather bizarre.
They went to play the Sharpville based Vaal Professionals. As the East London keeper approached his goal to take his position before the game, he noticed something strange. The Vaal Professionals keeper was on one knee and urinating on the goal line of the opposite side.
"There was a puddle of pee right next to me, on the right of me, and that's exactly where the goals got scored. We lost 2-0." Said the goalkeeper, Andy Donnelly.
