Orlando Pirates defeated Chippa United for the second time in four days when they racked up a 2-0 win in a DStv Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
A first-half brace from the in-form Tshegofatso Mabasa, which took him top of the league's scoring charts with 15 goals, saw the Buccaneers overcome the Chilli Boys with a two-goal marging, just as they did in a Nedbank Cup semifinal this past Saturday.
It's Pirates' seventh successive win across all competitions and sees them close the gap on second place to just one point.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "Red-Hot Mabasa Keeps Bucs In Champions League Hunt" story:
"Congrats once again Mabhakaniya," says @ThizaK.
"What I really like about my team now is the competition among our players, Monyane knows that Lebitso is injured and he must grab the opportunity, Makhaula knows that Timm is waiting etc. Up the Bucs!" says morewasn.
"Where was this competition during the start of the season. They should have won the league by now," says bhekilekhuleni6.
"Bru, understand that: Football has a process. You try different formulas and finally get one that is working. Even after finding it you still need to find ways to upgrade the standard, whereas on the other side, your opponents are planning against you.
"To be honest all the games we lost few that we didn't deserve to win, but due to shortfalls in understanding the coaches philosophy from the players side and understanding each other we lost those games," replied svincent089.
"I think the problem with Pirates is too many new players at the start of the season and they take time to gel, hence the slow start. Lets hope they continue like this even in the new season, we need competition and excitement," says Futbolone.
"Once always. We are marching on bucajuju," says oupa.phiri27.
"Buccaneers, you are on something boys," says Weissel A.
"Why was that Chippa United player not given a RED CARD for the handball that resulted in the penalty? South African football has been captured by corruption and brown envelopes," says peter1166315.
It was just a cross ball and it could have been gone anywhere, not a ball that was going to the net. Dont be too harsh, juju," replies Fair Comment.
"I was at Orlando stadium from Thaba Nchu, Selosesha, and watched this magnificent and marauding team winning and playing flowing, attacking and attractive football," says raditselalouis.
Ten-man Mamelodi Sundowns could only manage a point in a 0-0 draw with a stubborn Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale on Wednesday night.
Masandawana were dealt with a blow early in the second half when Mosa Lebusa received his marching orders for a tactical foul and a contentious decision in the first half could have seen Downs finish the match with nine players.
Knox Mutizwa provided one of best chances of the half for Abafana Bes'thende after latching onto a through ball into the Sundowns half.
In an attempt to nullify the threat, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams rushed out of his 18-yard-area and fouled the on-rushing Mutizwa.
Awaiting the referee's decision, an anxious Williams received a yellow card for his last-ditch tackle, much to the annoyance of the Steve Komphela and the rest of Arrows' technical team.
A bulk of fans on social media were convinced that Williams got away with a red card, mentioning that he stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Here's what some of them had to say on Twitter/X, with Downs fans agreeing with referee's decision of a yellow card:
