Formidable former Orlando Pirates' striker, Jerry Sikhosana, explains just what it takes to make it as a goalscorer at one of Africa's largest clubs. Having watched Kermit Erasmus over the years, he also has some thoughts on the Port Elizabeth-born hitman and his possible future with Bafana Bafana.
Soccer Laduma: Afternoon, sir. You played for Orlando Pirates. What does it take to be a top striker at Pirates?
Jerry Sikhosana:Score goals. As a striker your duty is to score goals and that's what will make you a top striker at Pirates. It doesn't matter when or which team you score against, as long as you can score goals. That's what you need.
SL: You have obviously watched Kermit Erasmus play. What's your take on him as a player?
JS:Every game he has played, he has shown his quality and in most of those games he has scored goals. I think he still has a lot to prove but I have seen that he is a good striker. Pirates signed him because of what they saw while he was still at SuperSport United.
SL: Do you think he has proven his worth since he joined the team last season?
JS:I think so. He hasn't really played as much as I would have liked to have seen him play, but he had proven his price. He has shown why he is one of the top strikers in the country. I am happy with what I have seen from him so far.
SL: Does he still have what it takes to go back to Europe?
JS:You know, he went to play in Europe when he was still very young and he has the experience of playing in Europe. Age is still on his side and, if he continues with his current form, I don't see why he can't go back to Europe.
SL: Do you think he still has a future with Bafana Bafana?
JS:It all depends on what the coach wants for his team, but I think he has what it takes to be in the national team.
SL: Legend, thanks for your time.
JS: You're welcome.
