Remember When Thulasizwe Mbuyane Struck Late And Crushed The Khosi Nation?

Remember When Thulasizwe Mbuyane Struck Late And Crushed The Khosi Nation?

The 2010/11 Absa Premiership season was one of the most memorable campaigns in recent years. That season saw the two Soweto giants fighting out for the league title, and the Soweto derbies were mouth watering encounters.

In the run-in to the league title, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were fighting it out. On February 26, 2011, the Amakhosi and Bucs faithful were treated to what was one of the most electrifying Soweto derby encounters in recent memory.

It was a game that could have gone either way!

Amakhosi needed nothing less than three points while Buccaneers also needed a win, but a draw would still work to their advantage. Both teams took to the beautiful FNB Calabash for what was clash of the giants.

It seemed as though the Glamour Boys had everything under control when Kaizer Jnr Motaung's goal led Amakhosi kept the team in the lead until the 90th minute. A jubilant Khosi nation thought they had done enough to clinch the win, but their celebration was short-lived when Bucs striker, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, found the back of the net in the added injury time. His goal canceled out Kaizer Jnr's goal, to level matters.

The look of disappointment and shock in the eyes of the Black and Gold remains an unforgettable memory. The FNB Stadium was divided into two. One side was rejoicing, the other was crushed. The game was the perfect epitome of the cliche saying, "football is not for the faint-hearted."

The Buccaneers were crowned PSL champions that season!

What are your fondest memories of that encounter?
