DStv Premiership

Teams: Orlando Pirates v Royal AM

Date: 08 August 2023

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Time: 19h30

Pirates did not have the start they were looking for after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch, who scored just before the half-time break through a strike by Antonio Van Wyk on Saturday evening.

The Buccaneers are one of five teams who lost their opening matches, including Sekhukhune United, Cape Town Spurs, Polokwane City and Richards Bay.

Royal AM, meanwhile, will also be searching for their first victory after playing to a goalless draw against AmaZulu in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Saturday.

Thwihli Thwahla and Usuthu were joined by Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United as teams to have played to a goalless draw in the opening round of fixtures.

Pirates took four points from this fixture last season, as they won the first round 1-0 away courtesy of Deon Hotto and drew 1-1 at home in May after Menzi Masuku netted the equaliser for Royal AM in stoppage time to cancel out an own goal by Elias Pelembe, against his former side.
