Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Orlando Pirates

Date: 30 December 2022

Venue: Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Time: 15h30

Pirates had a bittersweet ending before the FIFA World Cup break after they lost the 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the league, but went on to win the MTN8 trophy a week later after edging AmaZulu by the same scoreline in the final.

Pirates dropped down to fifth on the table from the loss against Chiefs and are nine points behind leaders Sundowns, but a win could reduce that gap to six points, although the Brazilians have a game in hand.

In comparison, Masandawana went to the recess on a high after they extended their winning streak in the league to six matches with a 3-0 thrashing of Royal AM.

The Tshwane giants also have a five-point lead at the top of the pile and could stretch the gap between them and Pirates to 12 points if they win.

Sundowns will be without Aubrey Modiba due to suspension.

The sides will be meeting for third time this season after their two-legged semi-finals clashes in the MTN8, where Pirates ran out 3-0 winners on aggregate.
