Soweto Derby loss highlights Pirates' biggest problem

Soweto Derby loss highlights Pirates' biggest problem

Following their Soweto Derby loss to archrivals Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates coach Mandla Ncikazi has revealed his side's biggest problem.

Pirates suffered their second consecutive derby loss to Amakhosi on Saturday with the men from Naturena emerging 2-1 winners in the DStv Premiership clash.

The loss leaves Pirates in fourth on the log standings, while Amakhosi have moved up to third.

Speaking to the media after the match, an apologetic Ncikazi highlighted his side's lack of finishing as their biggest problem

"We are not playing bad, we are playing well. Its just the team in the final third [has to] make the decision and take the chances that you create. If we improve that and the capacity is here.

"We don't have a big problem – we just have one problem, that we don't put the ball in the net," Ncikazi told journalists after the match.

Ncikazi also sent out a heartfelt apology to the club's fans and management, calling for more time and patience while himself and coach Fadlu Davids fine tune their philosophy into the squad.

"I'd just want to take this opportunity to apologize to the happy people, the supporters of Orlando Pirates, management and everybody who likes the club. It's not the result that the club deserves, you can't lose twice to Kaizer Chiefs in one season.

"I just hope that they still trust the process that we just have a team that had 11 players injured that were regulars the previous season. They'll also understand that there was change in leadership inbetween the season.

"So one, without making excuses the management and supporters of Orlando Pirates don't deserve what happened. I am just disappointed and on behalf of the technical team, we really apologize. I just hope that they keep faith and hope, it has to change, we must change. We can still improve and be better with time," he added.

Gordon Igesund compares his time as Orlando Pirates coach to an emotional movie:
