Pirates’ Riveiro Comments On Refereeing After Soweto Derby Loss

Pirates’ Riveiro Comments On Refereeing After Soweto Derby Loss

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has commented on refereeing after his team's loss in the Soweto derby.

In what was referee Victor Gomes' last match in the PSL as he is set to retire at the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar., there were not many controversial moments as Kaizer Chiefs defeated Pirates 1-0 courtesy of a brilliant strike from Yusuf Maart which he took from his own half.

While some argued that Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, who lost possession in Chiefs' half before the ball was received by Maart, might have been fouled by Khama Billiat but Riveiro didn't complain.

In fact, the Bucs mentor applauded the referee for how he handled the game.

"I have my opinion about the action obviously but I'm not going to complain. I think the role of the referee, I think it's the most difficult thing to do in this business. It's so difficult, they have to make the decisions you know. Sometimes the decisions are in our favour, sometimes the decisions are in the other direction. I think at the end of the season those decisions are usually in balance," said Riveiro, speaking to journalists.

"We cannot complain about the referee I think he did a good job. Last time we played, the level of the refereeing in my opinion in Polokwane was super good. So, I have my opinion but it's not going to change the result. You can see the picture and you can see the action and you will have your own opinions," the coach said.
