Two legends who have won the MTN8 have gone into detail to describe how winning the competition early on in the season can inspire a successful campaign.
Morgan Gould and Vuyo Mere, who are part of the MTN8 legends, all won this competition during their playing days, and the seasons they went on to have after winning it were successful.

Gould was with Kaizer Chiefs in 2014/15 when Tefu Mashamaite's solitary goal sealed the MTN8 title, as Amakhosi clinched the league title with head coach Stuart Baxter that season.
"It set us so well. We knew the taste of glory early on in the season. It set us so well that we just went onto greater (things). It's a season where we had the most wins. We achieved a lot of things by winning two major cups that season," Gould told the Siya crew.
"This is where you can make or break your season. It's either you are going to go all the way and do the unthinkable, or you are going to crumble and rebuild because it gives you a look into what you did right or wrong in pre-season."
Mere was part of a memorable Platinum Stars team that won the competition in 2013.
"It is very important. Once you start doing well in this competition, the momentum goes into the league. Winning builds confidence. If you win the MTN8, it sets the tone for the season because your confidence is up there," Mere told Soccer Laduma.
As Platinum Stars, we ended up finishing second and missing out on the league title by one point.

Another MTN8 legend who knows all about winning the competition is Lucky Lekgwathi. He won the competition in 2010 and 2011 and, on both occasions, Orlando Pirates went onto win the treble.
It's quite clear that, in most cases, the secret to having a good season is winning the MTN8. Time will tell who will get their hands on the title this season.
