Kaizer Chiefs v Platinum Stars (Absa Premiership)

League rankings: Chiefs 12th Platinum Stars 6th

Useful facts: Following the international break and MTN8 semi-finals, Kaizer Chiefs will finally get to return to the pitch and redeem themselves against one of the teams that outperformed them last season. Despite also losing out on the quarter-final stages of the MTN8, Dikwena can at least boast a victory in the league, as opposed to their illustrious opponents. However, Chiefs have the better historic record, with three wins to Platinum Stars' two from the last six encounters. Chiefs' poor goalscoring record – which has seen them fail to score in their last four league games – will give the visitors hope, despite Stars failure to win any of their last six away games in the Absa Premiership.

Fire Masilela: Platinum Stars 1–0.

Maritzburg Utd v Mamelodi Sundowns (Absa Premiership)

League rankings: Maritzburg 5th Sundowns 10th

Useful facts: Maritzburg's poor record against Sundowns, which has seen them fail to win any of their last six games against the reigning champions, looks like it may improve, given that they've now won their last three games on the trot. It won't be easy, though, because Pitso Mosimane's men have won seven of their last eight games away from home. Furthermore, Sundowns rock solid-defence has kept clean sheets in five of their last six games. But it's a new season and Ernst Middendorp will be hoping for the best.

Fire Masilela: Sundowns 2–0.

SuperSport United v Chippa Utd (Absa Premiership)

League rankings: SuperSport 14th Chippa 4th

Useful facts: Chippa may have won their last three league matches and Stuart Baxter's men may have lost their opener to Platinum Stars, but SuperSport still hold a far better head-to-head record, having won four times and drawn twice in their last six against Chippa.

Fire Masilela: Draw 2–2.

Real Madrid v Sporting Lisbon (UEFA Champions League)

League rankings: Real Madrid 1st (La Liga) Sporting 1st (Portuguese Liga)

Useful facts: The European champions will now begin their quest for a 12th title against an in-form Lisbon team that have won four games on the trot. However, the Spanish giants are undefeated in 13 of their last 14 Champions League games and are on a 15-match winning streak in La Liga. In addition, the three matches played prior to this clash between these two teams have resulted in Real Madrid's favour, with two wins and a draw.

Fire Masilela: Real Madrid 3–1.
