The goal of the tournament is not only to entertain fans with some great quality efootball but is part of an initiative that is seeking to raise $10 million (R168,773,700.00) to aid the ongoing battle against the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed over 370,000 lives already. The tournament has to date seen $8.5 million (R143 564 575.00) donated to global charities including GAVI, UNICEF, International Medical Corps, Direct Relief, Norwegian Refugee Council, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRELIEF) and the International Telecommunications Union.

The tournament has been billed as the largest charity esports event of all time and this FIFA 20 segment forms part of the closing weekend for Gamers Without Borders which sees some of the world's most elite professional gamers face off for a prize of $1.5 million (R25,340,025.00) – all of which will be donated to charity.

Some of the fixtures to look forward to include Alli versus Dybala, Alexander-Arnold versus former One Direction star Liam Payne and a clash between Portuguese pair Andre Silva and Joao Felix.

Alli, who is an avid gamer played in a similar tournament playing Fortnite saying: "Lots of my team-mates and footballing friends are massively into their gaming. Playing the likes of FIFA over the last few months has kept us connected and competitive for when we get back out there for real." "Gamers Without Borders is a brilliant way for gamers all over the world to come together for good causes and support these charities fighting Covid-19. I'm looking forward to seeing what Paulo has in the locker for our match!"

Liam Payne, former "1D" man and now a solo artist, added "Gaming has brought people together and provided a bit fun for many over the last few months. I'm a massive fan and love FIFA so I'm looking forward to a chance to join some amazing footballers in supporting these charities fighting Covid-19 with Gamers Without Borders."
