Despite a glamourous launch and solid marketing and more, EA Sports FC is experiencing a drop in sales compared to last season's FIFA 23.

EA FC 24, the first football title released by EA since parting ways with the FIFA license, is facing a significant drop in physical sales, with the change in name a possible reason.

EA FC 24's drop-off in sales 

When EA Sports announced last year that they will be moving on from the FIFA title, it sent shock waves in the gaming world, after the two brands enjoyed a successful relationship that lasted around 30 years.

Last year's FIFA 23 marked the end of the deal between the game publisher and the international football association, with EA ushering a new and exciting era with EA FC 24, or FC 24. 

EA's final FIFA proved to be a major hit, reportedly surpassed the lifetime sales of FIFA 22 in just six months according to Front Office Sport.

Moving on without the recognisable FIFA name is proving to be a challenge for EA, as first entry sales of EA FC 24 struggles to match past FIFA numbers.

EA's new game is falling significantly short of FIFA 23 in terms of sales of physical discs, as reported by gaming journalist Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz — the sale of physical discs of EA FC 24 is down by 30% compared to FIFA 23 in the United Kingdom.

In the same post, Dring recognises that EA had been anticipating a drop in sales due to the name change, but a loss this significant could concern the US-based game publishers.
