Chiefs To Reward 'Future Captain' With New Contract?

Chiefs To Reward 'Future Captain' With New Contract?

Kaizer Chiefs could be aiming at making sure one of their first team midfielders stays longer at the club by offering him a new contract, and establishing a key role for the player in future, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources at Naturena have indicated that Yusuf Maart has been offered a new two-year contract with a one-year option. The source added that although Maart's current contract only expires in June 2025, the club has engaged with the player and his representatives for an extended deal.

"The club wants to keep him for a longer period. You know they are building the future team around him. He has been one of the consistent players and that's why they are already offering him a new deal even a year before his current deal comes to an end," said the Siya source.

"Actually the talks between his representatives have started. The club has made sure it secures the future of the midfielder while there is still time to do so. So, for now the offer is on the table and I think soon I will tell you how everything is going," the source concluded.

Meanwhile a second Siya source added that the current technical team and management may already be working on other players whom they feel are also important in the team going forward.

"The club is looking at Yusuf (Maart) as the future captain and that's why they are offering him a new contract. They have offered him a two-year deal with a one-year option deal at the moment. Meaning he could still be at the club until June 2028. That's just showing how much they trust the player and the belief they have in him," said the second Siya source.

"I can say the talks are going on very well and soon everything will be finalised. Everyone at the club is happy with him and his progress," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Maart has been one of the most consistent Amakhosi midfielders in terms of appearances this season, and has continued from where he left off in the last campaign.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
