The Siya Crew has been reliably informed that AmaZulu goalkeeper, Veli Mothwa, will have a firm idea on his future at the end of the season, but that hasn't stopped him from already assessing his options.
According to information made available to Soccer Laduma and corresponding with our story published in July 2022, the Bafana Bafana shot stopper signed a two-year contract at the time and the agreement included the possibility of having it extended by the same length at the club's discretion.
Mothwa is now in the final months of that initial deal and sources close to the situation have told the Crew that Usuthu haven't indicated yet whether the option will be triggered.
As previously reported, AmaZulu are not discussing contracts at the moment with president Sandile Zungu wanting the players to focus on the reminder of the campaign – the boss was also hoping they go all the way in the Nedbank Cup.
The list of players whose futures are unclear is growing at the KwaZuluNatal outfit, among them defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele and midfielders Ben Motshwari as well as George Maluleka all waiting to get clarity.
Mothwa was the subject of interest from Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, on the back of a stellar season under Benni McCarthy when Usuthu finished runners-up in the DStv Premiership.
But AmaZulu moved swiftly to tie him down as his profile grew, catching the eye of Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who added him to the Africa Cup of Nations squad as the side's second choice where they won a bronze medal.
Mothwa's fate lies with Usuthu, however a departure is not out of the cards.
