Pirates' Striker Revamp: Running Out Of Time

After months of speculation surrounding his future, Orlando Pirates have made a decision with a foreign striker, the Siya crew understands.

Soccer Laduma has previously covered develops on the future of Cameroon player Souaibou Marou, including a recent update on whether he could be loaned out.

Siya sources close to the Houghton-based club have indicated that Marou may not continue with the team into the next season.

The decision comes as the club looks to refresh its attacking options by bringing in new strikers, necessitating Marou's departure to make room for incoming talent.

"For now, it's more or less like a foregone conclusion that Marou won't be at Pirates next season. All the parties involved have agreed that it's the best way for the player and the club as well," said the Siya source.

"That decision has finally been made. No, I don't think it will be a loan move. They are looking at parting ways straight away and to release him from his contract. It's unfortunate that he hasn't been able to showcase his talent at Pirates.

"He is a very good striker and he is still young. Age is still on his side and doors will open for him going forward," the source observed.

A second Siya source pointed out that Marou's main challenge has been adjusting to South African football and settling in at Pirates.

"No doubt about it he is a good player. I just think that he took time to adjust to South Africa and it's football and that delayed his progress at the team. And for now the club feels they should give him the chance to go try his luck somewhere because he still has a future ahead of him. So, as it stands now, he won't be at Pirates next season. That's what we know," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Since joining the club in January last year, the 23-year-old Cameroonian has not played as many games as he would have ideally preffered, and has yet to score a goal. This season he has only featured in two PSL games, and two Caf Champions League matches.

So Marou's journey with Pirates could come to an end as the club opts for a strategic reshuffle in its forward line. Despite the limited opportunities to prove himself, Marou's youth and talent suggest a promising future lies ahead.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for a comment but the club had not responded by the time this story was published.
