Due To Downs, Chiefs Turn Attention To Another Target?

Due To Downs, Chiefs Turn Attention To Another Target?

Kaizer Chiefs could be looking at a utility player who can slot in at left back and left midfield, an insider privy to information has revealed.

Amakhosi are not taking it easy in the transfer market whether that may effectively be for signings in this January window period or at the end of the season. Their focus could be on another Stellenbosch FC player, as the Siya crew will explain a special reason for the link.

Siya sources very close to Chiefs have indicated that the Naturena outfit could be interested in utility player Qobolwakhe Sibande because of the way he can fit into the squad.

The Stellies youth graduate can also play as a defensive midfielder when required.

The source added that Chiefs' scouts have been monitoring the 23-year-old player for some time now.

"There are several players the club scouts are looking at and Sibande is one of them. The good thing with him is that he is a versatile player. He can play as a left back as well as in the midfield and that's what they like most about him," said the Siya source.

"For now it's a recommendation from the scouting department to the management and technical team. They are looking at him. That's the situation right now. And they are interested in him," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that it seems Chiefs may not be going in for their other target Fawaaz Basadien and that is how Sibande is now moving ahead in the queue.

"You know their first choice was Fawaaz (Basadien) but it seems it will be hard to get him as Mamelodi Sundowns are also interested in him and the team has offered him a new contract so Chiefs want to step back and look at another player and that's why they are looking at Sibande," said the second Siya source.

"It's not a done deal yet but they are interested in him. They want to have a strong left side of defence and attack from January going into next season," the source added.

So far this season, Sibande has featured in many DStv Premiership league games for Stellies and he was part of the Carling Knockout final victory over TS Galaxy, clinching their first-ever trophy in the top flight.

When contacted for comment Chiefs didn't respond while this story was prepared.
