Lebusa Latest On SuperSport's Radar

Lebusa Latest On SuperSport's Radar

With a little over two months before the 2022/23 season comes to an end, SuperSport United are looking at several options to beef up coach Gavin Hunt's squad.

The Siya crew understands that while final decisions will only be made in the off-season, that's not stopped management from putting a shortlist together and identifying players of interest – and Mamelodi Sundowns' Mosa Lebusa is believed to be on their radar.

A former Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) defender and captain, Lebusa joined the Brazilians in 2018 after the Urban Warriors were relegated to the lower division and over time became a key figure for the Chloorkop-based side.

The Welkom-born star has even been handed the Downs armband at one point. But the current season hasn't delivered the best of numbers for the centre-back due to niggling injuries and competition in the centre-back position with Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Rushine De Reuck and Brian Onyango.

SuperSport are going to lose Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer from July 1, leaving a gap for a left-footed centre-back at the club.

According to sources, Lebusa is viewed as an ideal replacement who can also slot in as a left back – giving Hunt versatility. Unlike Ditlhokwe, however, it is not expected that the 30-year-old will move without a transfer fee or a swap deal being part of the discussions.

Soccer Laduma understands that Lebusa has added options to his contract at Sundowns, although there has not been an indication on whether the champions-elect will extend it further, meaning he has to wait to hear from the club.
