Mayo's Staggering Transfer Fee Revealed

Mayo's Staggering Transfer Fee Revealed

It was a year ago when Cape Town City boss John Comitis slapped a price tag of more than R30 million on striker Khanyisa Mayo. With Mayo having since been sold, the Siya crew has been informed as to whether Comitis received his asking price for his star player.

Mayo recently sealed a sensational switch to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.

The striker had long been linked with a move from Cape Town City, both locally and on the continent but it was Belouizdad who won the race for his signature.

Now, Siya sources have informed the crew that the Algerian giants forked out $800 000 (±R14.3 million) to land Mayo.

While the fee was not exactly the $1.7 million (±R30 million) Comitis initially set out for, the Citizens received just under half that amount, which is good business considering that Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to have paid Stellenbosch a similar amount for Iqraam Rayners.

As confirmed by the player's agent on Metro FM, Mayo received a late offer from Kaizer Chiefs, though the player already had his mind set on a switch to Algeria.
