Ritchie Not Retired, But…

Ritchie Not Retired, But…

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows player Keagan Ritchie has not retired from the game but has spoken to the Siya Crew about how stressful things have been for him without a club to play for at the moment.

Ritchie last played for Maritzburg United before they were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season. The left back has been without a club for over six months, but that does not mean he has not been keeping fit.

The 33-year-old has been keeping himself fit, doing things such as CrossFit to ensure he is ready for whenever a contract is offered to him.

"If I am honest, it's been quite tough and stressful because I have not officially retired from the game. There has been no real interest from any clubs, so it's been quite stressful, but it is what it is," Ritchie said to the Siya Crew.

"There is obviously more to life than football and, at my age, I have got to think of my family, and we move on. We try different things.

"In my head, I am not there (at retirement) yet because I feel that I have a lot to give. I am obviously still fit. I have not been playing competitive football for this whole season, but I feel that it won't take long. If I get a pre-season under my belt somewhere, then obviously I'd be straight back on it. I have not put on weight. I have kept healthy and strong, just in case."
