Chiefs' Plan If They Can't Sign Mayele

Chiefs' Plan If They Can't Sign Mayele

Siya sources at the club have indicated that securing Fiston Mayele is becoming increasingly difficult for Chiefs, which makes Olunga the more viable option for the next transfer window, in January.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Chiefs had inquired about the Kenyan, and now sources close to the club have added that Amakhosi are exploring the possibility of bringing in Olunga.

"You see at the moment the Fiston Mayele mission looks impossible because after losing Fagrie Lakay, Pyramids FC don't want to lose Mayele as well," said the Siya source.

"That's why Chiefs are now looking at Michael (Olunga) for January as well. So they are revisiting that interest. They feel it will be much easier getting Michael at this point than to stay on the Mayele chase," the source added.

A second insider stated that coach Nasreddine Nabi wants a striker who can complement Ranga Chivaviro, as he feels Wandile Duba is more of a winger than a number nine.

"Yes, the main focus in January is on a striker and since it's becoming clear that they may not get Fiston Mayele so they have reignited the Michael Olunga interest. But whatever the team does, they want to have a striker in January to play with Ranga (Chivaviro). At the moment Ranga is their main striker while Wandile (Duba) is like a second striker but more of a winger from Nabi's point of view. So they are looking at Olunga once again," the second Siya source stated.

30-year-old Olunga is currently playing for Al-Duhail SC in Qatar, and so far this season, he has started well by consistently scoring goals. The Kenyan has proven to be a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, being particularly impressive in Asia.

Chiefs are hoping to sign him as his contract at Al-Duhail expires in June 2025.

Attempts by Soccer Laduma to get comment from Chiefs yielded no response at the time of publishing this report.

Chiefs' renewed interest in Olunga highlights their strategic approach to strengthening their attacking options. As the club navigates the challenges of securing a top striker, Olunga emerges as a promising target for the January transfer window. The upcoming negotiations will be crucial in determining whether Chiefs can bring the Kenyan striker to Naturena.
