Webber Linked With Chiefs Transfer

News from Sekhukhune United suggests that former SuperSport United midfielder Jamie Webber has fallen out of favour at the club.

Kaizer Chiefs, who were initially interested in him before his move to Babina Noko, are believed to be considering reigniting their interest, according to insiders privy to information.

The sources close to both Sekhukhune and Amakhosi indicated that while a January transfer may not be on the cards, Chiefs are contemplating bringing the 27-year-old midfielder on board later.

The insiders added that Chiefs might wait until Webber's contract with Sekhukhune United expires in June 2025 to potentially sign him as a free agent.

"Yes, it's a different situation altogether now. This time around you know he is with Sekhukhune United under different circumstances and that's why Chiefs have shown interest again. No, it's not all the time about the coach. Sometimes it's about the scouts and recruiters who notice and identify players for the team and it seems that's the situation with Jamie (Webber). It's believed that the club still believes he can contribute to the team. After all he just turned 27-years of age this month. He still has a great future ahead of him and he can do it at Chiefs," the Siya source stated.

A second insider mentioned that Webber's lack of game time with Sekhukhune United could work in Chiefs' favour.

"Things don't seem very good for him at the club now and that would be a plus for Chiefs. You know the whole of this season he hasn't featured in any game for the team. His problem started last season and it has continued to this season and things are not looking good for him. We don't think he will stay beyond his current contract. So that could be the other reason why Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be interested in him," the second source stated.

Webber joined Babina Noko in 2023 from SuperSport United with a two-year contract plus a one-year option. His main contract ends in June 2025, and it's uncertain if the club will activate the option.

Soccer Laduma contacted both Chiefs and Sekhukhune United for comment but received no response at the time of publication.
