Chiefs' Affordable Alternative To Signing Mayele?

Chiefs' Affordable Alternative To Signing Mayele?

Kaizer Chiefs' pursuit for a new striker has been widely reported, and as they struggle to secure their main target, Fiston Mayele, they are understood to have turned their attention to a Young Africans striker, the Siya crew has been informed.

The player in question is Clement Mzize who has already been linked to Amakhosi in recent days, but now insiders have provided further insight on the situation.

Siya sources working closely with all the involved parties, have indicated that Chiefs are believed to have inquired about the 20-year-old striker from Yanga SC, though there is a reason why the move hasn't happened yet.

The insiders added if the Glamour Boys can't secure Mayele or Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye from ASFAR of Morocco, then Mzize could be the alternative option.

"The coach has made it clear that they need a striker and it seems they are not getting their main targets and hence the change of focus to another striker. They are working around the clock to get Mayele or Orebonye but if they can't then they are looking at Mzize. As I have told you before, what they are looking at is an outright striker because Christian Saile and Ashley Du Preez are more or less like wingers and only Ranga Chivaviro is an experienced outright striker. Then they are surrounded by youngsters," said the Siya source.

"The team is aiming to fight for trophies and someone to score goals to win games and they think Mzize could help if they don't get the other two. They have now made inquiries about his availability and things could turn around soon if they don't get their first priority targets. They are working behind closed doors to get him if all other efforts fail," the source added.

A second Siya source stated that they are also preparing the squad in case Du Preez and Saile leave before the September transfer window closes.

"You know they want to loan out Saile. Du Preez could move to Portugal. So they need replacements for these strikers in case they move before the end of September. The club is looking at all possibilities and Clement Mzize is one of them at the moment who they think they could afford to bring in," the second source observed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Yanga SC president Hersi Said, but received no response at the time of publishing this report.

Attempts to contact Chiefs for comment were also unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
