CT Spurs & Stellies In Potential Swap Deal

CT Spurs & Stellies In Potential Swap Deal

In an intriguing potential transfer move, Cape Town Spurs and Stellenbosch FC are reportedly in negotiations over a possible swap deal involving two promising young right-backs, Siviwe Nkwali and Shaakir Ahmed, with additional cash being part of the deal.

Siya Sources close to the situation have confirmed that talks are underway, with both clubs looking to make moves that benefit their respective squads.

Siviwe Nkwali, a 19-year-old right back currently playing for Cape Town Spurs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, has attracted interest from Stellies due to his potential and recent performances. Nkwali is also part of the South African U20 national team, Amajita, which made history last month by qualifying for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His steady performances at the back and his ability to contribute both defensively and going forward have caught the attention of top-tier clubs, and Stellenbosch FC are keen to bring him into their setup.

On the other side of the proposed deal, Shaakir Ahmed, a 21-year-old right back, has been a key figure in the Stellenbosch FC DStv Diski Challenge team.

Ahmed joined the club in 2022, initially linking up with their reserve side. He quickly earned recognition, being named captain for the 2023/24 season. Under his leadership, Stellies' reserve team claimed both the DStv Diski Challenge and the Premier League Next Generation Cup titles. Ahmed's leadership qualities and consistent performances earned him a call-up to the first team, making his senior debut in March 2024 with a substitute appearance in a 3-0 league victory over Royal AM.

His solid performances were rewarded when he signed his first professional contract with Stellenbosch in September 2024.

The potential swap deal, which includes cash as part of the negotiations, would see Nkwali make the move to Stellenbosch while Ahmed heads in the opposite direction to Cape Town Spurs. For Stellies, the acquisition of Nkwali would offer an exciting young prospect for the future, while Spurs would gain the experienced and decorated Ahmed, who brings leadership and a winning mentality to the team.
